soul friendship

"Without self-knowledge, without understanding the working and functions of his machine, man cannot be free."
--G. I. Gurdjieff
Since I was nine years old, I've been a counselor. I've been called an empath and a good listener, but what seems to be my real gift in talking with people is in noticing their patterns and how we fall into them over and over again. In other words, we keep acting the same way (and making the same mistakes) because it's our patterns that make us.
But until we see our patterns, there's no changing, try as we might. We're like a vinyl record with a really deep groove from getting played so much. Let's say we really want to hear "Going to California" or "Battle of Evermore" on Led Zeppelin's untitled IV album. Nope! You've played "Stairway to Heaven" so many times the needle just jumps in there and here we go again, "There's a laaaady who's sure...". That's what our patterns are like.
Add in humanity's tragic tendency toward mechanical thinking and we've got our work cut out for us if we want to stay present and not miss our entire lives while we daydream away... "all that glitters is gold..."
There's an old Celtic name for the kind of friend I am to those who are open to it: anam cara. It means "soul friend," and is a deep, platonic relationship on the spiritual level. The great Desert Fathers considered it the highest and most profound form of friendship possible.
I'm a pattern recognizer, a soul whisperer, and a devoted servant of humanity. I see your highest potential and how to get there. If you're ready, let's talk.
